Well Indiana Jones 4 (too many words to write the full title) has been released and the backlash will now begin. Starting here....
The fact is that the film is not very good. The story is poor, unimaginative and
uninvolving which is not good enough when you consider the 'talent' that is involved. I think that the lack of creativity of a involved is indicative of the current state of production in Hollywood. There are a number of films being released that are harking back to the good old days of blockbusters. The problem with these films is that they do not display anything different, they are merely self referential films that rely on audiences love for the originals. If someone went to see Indy 4 for the first time I do not think that they would be interested in seeing anymore films with these characters. The filmmakers should have treated this film like the first of a series and not an attempt to recreate former glories. I think that word of mouth will ultimately stop the film gathering huge box office receipts unlike Iron Man which has benefited from healthy buzz since its release.
.....Onto me for a bit.....I have finally finished my University degree in Film Studies and a summer of working (and hopefully) some productive scriptwriting and plenty of trips to the cinema to see the latest blockbuster fare. Hopefully I might blog a little bit more about my foray into writing over the summer and maybe get a couple of visitors to this site.
